How does the brain know when to eat? What happens when internal needs like hunger or stress compete for control of behavior? Why do some individuals develop obesity or eating disorders while others remain resilient? Our lab investigates how physiological states are sensed and translated by the brain into feeding decisions and motor actions. We ask how neural circuits integrate competing signals such as energy requirements, nutrient demands, but also stress, and how genetic and environmental variation shapes these processes. By bridging molecular biology, neuroscience, behavior, and metabolism, we aim to uncover fundamental principles of brain-body integration and their relevance for metabolic and mental health.
